Still She Rises seeks an energetic individual with a commitment to social justice to join our office as an investigator. We are looking for someone who is excited about helping to continue to build our investigative practice and finding creative ways to navigate the Tulsa landscape to provide attorneys with the information necessary for a zealous defense of our clients.
Investigators work alongside attorneys, client advocates, and social workers to defend Still She Rises clients accused of crimes. An investigator, under the supervision of the assigned attorney, plans and conducts complete investigations of criminal cases, finding evidence that will assist in our clients’ defense in court. A majority of the work of an investigator takes place not in the office but in the community.
Responsibilities include locating, interviewing and taking signed statements from prosecution witnesses, locating defense witnesses, subpoenaing and analyzing records and video footage, requesting medical and various other records, taking photographs, and visiting crime scenes. Investigators will often need to interview individuals who are incarcerated at the county jail in Tulsa. An investigator can also expect to occasionally work with attorneys in the Family Defense Practice in helping our clients fight for their right to parent their children. In some cases, an investigator may also work closely with social workers to interview witnesses who can provide mitigating evidence. An investigator will occasionally be asked to testify in criminal proceedings. The schedule of investigators often varies according to the availability of the witnesses; investigators must be flexible and available to work on the occasional evening or weekend.
Please email a resume, cover letter, and a brief writing sample to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please contact Kate Baltes, the investigator, via email with any questions regarding the position.
